A well-designed deck not only gives character to a dull area but also provides additional living space to a home. Wooden arbors and other garden accents such as trellises and lattice bring artful touches to a garden setting while adding interest and opportunites for the introduction of climbing and flowering vines. In addition to these wooden structures, we have even designed and built a custom pool house that was used for shade, storage, and entertainment. By far however our most popular project in wood is the design and installation of pergolas.
A pergola is an arbor-type design originating primarily from 15th century Italy. The pergola consists of posts that support an unroofed cross-section of decorative beams and joists. Each curved end on the beams is custom cut by our carpenters, and the result is a very grand and stylish spectacle. Pergolas are often used as accents over water features or in gardens, but are very popular as a back porch or patio addition. While most people admire the visual qualities of a pergola, many do not believe these open-air structures have a practical use. In fact because of the spacing of cross beams and the actual width of the wood, a pergola typically provides almost complete shade underneath. Drapes can be added on the sides to create an even more elegant and private sanctuary. Overall, the pergola is a great way to add a stylish and soothing accent to your home.
